We firstly started this puzzle project in June 2019. We are encountered and overcome quite a lot of difficulties.
Having drilled into this gear mechanism and changed to the 3th mold factories, we worked out and finalized the workable mold design.
Now, we are glad and proud to release this Sam Gear Orbit Cube.
The Gear Orbit Cube is a unique puzzle that combines 2D and 3D rotational geometry. It is a 3x3x3 with four small circles on each face, that rotate in the same direction when you turn a face.
For example, turning the R face 90 degrees clockwise will result in the small circles on the R face spinning 90 degrees relative to that face.
Believe that it will be incredible difficulty to most of the people. Get one and accept your challenge!
The little circles on each faces are part of a planetary gear system centered around a stationary sun gear hidden inside the center pieces.
The center serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose. Removed the center cap, it shows the hidden gear mechanism. And, it allow to tension and loosen the puzzle when inevitable gear misalignments happened.
It turns well and with beautiful stickers. With hidden planetary gears mechanism, you have to reveal the turning logic and solve it.
When the center turns, the surrounding 4 gear circles turns as well. It helps to build up your spacial and planetary system in your mind.
Not like traditional 3x3x3 cube, we have no solution now. You need to find the solution yourself.
This is really challenging, and a lot of fun!
